Sabe aquela história de chamar mulher solteira que tenha gato(s) de “louca dos gatos” – ou apelar para o original em inglês e chamar de “crazy cat lady”? Pois é, a fotógrafa BriAnne Wills, de Nova York, também conhece isso muito bem, e dois anos atrás percebeu que estava cansadíssima dessa conversa.

Em vez de ficar brigando com as pessoas que não enxergam a beleza que é ter felinos na vida, ela decidiu transformar seu saco cheio em um algo produtivo: o projeto Girls and Their Cats (garotas e seus gatos, em português), em que são fotografadas mulheres e seus bichanos.

As legendas das fotos contam as histórias por trás de cada dupla retratada. São histórias de adoção, de superação de deficiências dos gatinhos, de relacionamentos que acabaram, mas o amor pelo gato continuou por parte dos dois… É tudo muito lindo!

Allergic to hair and dust (i.e he will sneeze when there are hair balls and or I haven't vacuumed in a while). Has some issues with trusting strangers but a sweet and loving cat when he gets to know you. Once he forms an attachment he comes for plenty cuddles and will follow you wherever you go. He is a jumper so if you don't like the cat on your counter occassionally, he is not for you. Especially loves playing with his laser toy and needs plenty of cat naps. "Mush came into my life when I met my partner. He had had the cat for about 6 months before I met him. They were living in their bachelor pad in Philly where mush had free reign of kitten terror. When we first met, I have to admit I didn't care for him and he felt the same way. He would fuck with me while I slept and refused to interact with me during the day. The love crept in slowly over time and eventually he won me over, which was his plan from the jump, I’m sure. The thing about Mush is he doesn't really care about us at all, we are just here to serve his demands. Food, pets, and A LOT of alone time. He is very lucky that he is cute as shit. He's the only cat I know that hates toys and treats and he really isn't that curious. In fact, he's kind of dumb but in that really charming and cute way that has you saying "aw bless his heart" a lot. Eventually after being in his life for about six months, he started waking me up in the morning by sitting next to my head, looking me dead ass in my eyes and purring at his loudest volume. He has one of those machine gun purrs that is impossible to ignore or to fall asleep to. He's also blind in one eye which makes his stare even more intense for some reason, so when he looks at you, you listen. Eventually, once I fed him every morning, he became OBSESSED with me. I realized cats were really badass at that point because any time I was sad he would sit next to me until I felt better. He is picky about when he shares his love, but he always knows when to do it at just the right time. I am blessed he's in my life and I secretly (not so secretly) think he's starting to love me more than his dad. whoops! I'm pretty sure you can tell where he gets the name by these photos. “We first welcomed Bubba, our 12-year old, flat-faced, grandpa of a cat, into our lives after his first human passed away and then was bullied by other cats at his second home. He was too big to fit into a cat carrier, so when his second human’s car arrived to drop him off, Bubba was just curled up on the floor of the front seat. We ended up smuggling him into our apartment via a pillowcase. He spent the first two weeks hiding in the depths of our closet. When Bubba would make a rare appearance, my boyfriend and I would automatically freeze up at the sound of his paws and just followed his every move with our eyes (and our phones), trying not to scare him away while soaking in his little face. Now Bubba is the biggest sweetheart who follows MY every move (especially into the bathroom) and is the expert cuddler. Jeff Goldblum, on the other hand, is just over a year old and is the playful baby of the family. Jeff was an orphan found in East Harlem who landed himself into a vet’s office, up for adoption. After a few months, all of his fellow orphans found new homes while people kept passing on Jeff. Luckily for him, my boyfriend and I paid him a visit with a few drinks in our system. We made the tipsy decision to adopt the little guy after many rounds of “OMG HE’S SO CUTE HE’S THE BEST YAS”. Now I can’t fall asleep unless he’s curled up inconveniently on my face for the night. As a child growing up, I never had the responsibility or companionship of pets (aside from fish, who I had to learn not to get emotionally attached to, due their short lifespan). So, providing much needed homes to these furry nuggets has been such a game changer. “I met baby October on the eve of my 21st birthday. He was the best birthday surprise! October was found inside a cardboard box behind an office in Long Island. As soon as I held him I was so in love. This is a new experience for me because October is my first pet. I definitely treat him like he's a new born baby. I’ve been spending some time researching more about October and cats in general and I’ve found their behavior to be very interesting. I love that when he circles my leg it means he's leaving his scent on me so other cats know I'm his. He’s very playful and loves to cuddle. We also have so much in common like our nap schedules and the fact that we aren't too fond of the vacuum. "I'm 35 weeks pregnant living in Williamsburg in a spacious, sunny duplex that Chickpea, my husband and I are very proud to call home. I adopted Chickpea through Brooklyn Animal Action when she was less than a year old, but she had already had at least one litter of kittens! A plumber working in a projects building in Bed-Stuy found her at 6 months old trapped in a basement (the basement door was padlocked shut) with her litter of kittens she had just given birth to. Only 2 out of the 4 of her kittens had survived their living situation in that basement. I am so happy that the mama Chickpea also survived. Chickpea is a real freak. She jumps on my shoulders when I play the autoharp, drinks our coffee even when we drink it black, and she only drinks water out of pint glasses, so we have to leave pint glasses of water around the apartment instead of water dishes. The two of us have conversations where she replies to me when I speak to her, but first waits until I am done with the question to answer me. We are mutually obsessed with each other; she has to sit on my lap wherever I am in the apartment, and I have a plethora of images up under the #chickpeaforever hashtag. "I met "the one" in Greenpoint at the home of a woman who saved cats from the euthanasia list – her name was Eva. We knew we wanted to rescue and that perhaps we wanted a grey cat. So, I went and met the cats Eva had and fell in love with a little playful Russian Blue. He had been rescued from the streets of Bushwick and was only 2 months old at the time. Spencer (my then boyfriend, now husband) came to meet him and we agreed. This was it. A few days later Eva brought him to our apartment on North 7th and Bedford and we fell in love. Hard love. But we noticed something was different about this cat. Were his eyes a little brighter? Was his face a little rounder? We called but Eva assured us this was "our" cat. Okay, we thought – he's here and the cutest thing we've ever seen. Whoever he is we love him! We named his Schiaparelli after the designer Elsa Schiaparelli. I told Spencer we would either name our future child Schiap or our cat…he could chose. He chose the cat. A few days went by and Schiap made himself feel at home. He slept on our laundry bags and pawed at our feet as we walked by him. 3 days after we got Schiap I got a phone call from Eva at 9 am – she frantically confirmed our suspicion. She gave us the wrong cat!!! The numbers of the cat we chose and the cat she gave us were just reversed. She apologized profusely and told me she would come by that afternoon to swap the cats out. At that point we had already fallen in love with Schiap and figured it would be awful to send him back. We kept him and we are SO happy we did. He is the most mischievous, vain and sweet cat we've ever met. A few interesting things about Schiap: he pees/poos in the toilet (even covers his poop and pee with toilet paper). He is a world class hunter (birds, mice, rats, cockroaches, worms – you name it, he's brought it). He wakes me up at least 3 times a week asking to be spooned back to sleep. generally he bites my cheek or chirps until I open my eyes then he crawls beside me and lays on his side. At that point I have to put my arm around him or the bites start! We joke that he's Mexican like me because he loves beans and avocado." Paulina is a fabric r&d manager for Coach.

When we met, I had two. As we talked about our future, I said we could be a one-cat household after my elderly cat passed. When she left us, I grieved for two years. Then I reneged on my promise and told my husband I wanted another cat. He said he wanted a baby. I said it sounded like our family was going to get a lot bigger. Lucy was my best friend's cat. I had coveted her for years. She was so soft and affectionate and beautiful. Then my friend moved abroad and I jumped at the chance to give Lucy a home. She sleeps in my arms at night and never misses an opportunity to cuddle, and even kneaded on my pregnant belly. My husband threatens to tell the baby this story when she's older, but it's been clear from the start that she's a little cat lady, too. I know she'll understand. The baby gets so excited and squeals with delight when she sees the kitties! Now I'm trying to teach her how to be nice to our kitty friends. I tell her, "Kitties like it when we're quiet" and show her how to stroke their fur gently without grabbing or tugging. With practice, the kitties will like her as much as she likes them." Kelly and Desnudo in Bed Stuy for #girlsandtheircats @kellonwheelz 🐈🐈🐈 "A few years ago I was living without animals for the first time in my life and I realized that I was allergic. I still wanted to get a cat and thought I could handle a hairless one only they're hella expensive. I scoured @petfinder and @Craigslist and finally came across Desnudo's ad (He was called Rocky at the time). His owner had moved to Hawaii and left him with family until she could bring him with her. Unfortunately, or fortunately for me, her situation had changed and they were looking to find him a new home. $40 later I had this smelly, half-blind, little butthead that I love so much. His name came from trying to explain to Spanish coworkers that he had no hair. Desnudo means naked in Spanish. He hates all the clothes I try to put on him and ends up nude anyway so it's more fitting for him. Four years later and still going strong with my little bald baby."
